Marg Torrance named NAMIC’s 2020 PFMM Manager of the Year

The First Canadian to Win the NAMIC Professional Farm Mutual Manager of the Year Award

Guelph – October 2020Marg Torrance, President & CEO of Halwell Mutual Insurance Company, becomes the first Canadian to win prestigious award. Marg was nominated for this award by Halwell’s Board of Directors in recognition of Halwell’s success under Marg’s leadership and her commitment to the mutual community. The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) works to strengthen members by providing leadership in advocacy, education, and association services to mutual insurance companies across North America.  

The Professional Farm Mutual Manager of the Year Award, as described on the NAMIC website, recognizes the accomplishments of an outstanding farm mutual manager. The award recipient must hold the PFMM designation and serve in a management role at a mutual insurance company. Candidates are nominated due to high-level performance in management, financial management, and marketing.

Marg Torrance has worked in the insurance industry since 1982, holding roles in claims, underwriting, and business development, progressing into senior management at various large organizations. She then spent five years sharing her knowledge as a business professor, spearheading the insurance program.

In 2013, Marg took on her current role as President & CEO of Halwell Mutual Insurance Company in Guelph, Ontario. Since taking over as President & CEO, the company has grown from $17 million to over $30 million in Gross Premiums Written, broker representation has doubled, surplus has grown by over 30%.
